Wall painting in Amsterdam

Most orders in Amsterdam are repainting of living rooms and bedrooms: filling cracks, sanding, priming and two coats of emulsion. Painters also take on full apartments before moving in, single accent walls, radiators and window frames, and ceilings — which are priced separately because overhead work is slower. In older canal-side buildings expect extra preparation: plaster walls often need repair before any paint goes on, and skipping that step is the most common reason a fresh coat fails within a year.

For living spaces a matt washable emulsion hides small imperfections best; kitchens and bathrooms need moisture-resistant paint. Buying the paint yourself is usually cheaper, but agree on the brand with your painter first — quotes assume a specific coverage per litre. Before work starts, move furniture to the middle of the room, take down curtains and shelves, and ask how many days the room will be out of use: a standard bedroom takes two to four days including drying between coats.
