A classic facial — cleansing, light exfoliation, massage and a mask — is maintenance: skin looks fresher the same evening and nothing needs to heal. Deep (mechanical) cleansing actually extracts clogged pores and often leaves redness for a day or two, so do not book it right before an event. Chemical peels work over a course and are a winter story: skin peels for a few days and must be kept out of strong sun, which in practice means autumn to early spring. If you have active acne, rosacea or are on retinoids, say so in the request — it changes what the esthetician can safely do, and a good one asks anyway.

A serious esthetician starts a first visit with questions, not products: your routine, allergies, medication, what your skin does in a bad week. Expect a skin analysis under a lamp before any plan is offered, and be suspicious of a course of ten sold in the first fifteen minutes. Come without makeup if you can, and skip scrubs and acids for two days before. After a cleansing, the standard advice is no gym, sauna or heavy makeup for twenty-four hours — plan the visit accordingly. Results you can expect honestly: cleaner texture and fewer clogged pores within a week; nobody can promise pore size or acne gone in one session.
