Two pumps on the lower half of my shoulder-length, semi-coarse, prematurely grey hair are perfect for me. I also contend with a semi-arid climate and hard water even though I have a filter on my showerhead. Seems to perform just as well with air-drying as it does with blow-drying and is fragrance-free to boot. Not sure if I would recommend for fine, thinner hair, though. It might weigh it down. Texture and appearance are lotion-like.
